big_kev Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Global Warming......whats all that about then... For you youngsters out there.. A long time ago there was an ice ageThis was caused by a fluctuation in the earths tilt to the sun...or some similar thingy Any how the earth was colder than it is today and as the ice caps were much larger extending almost down to southern softie land. Then however the earth started to warm up and the icecaps retreated creating behind them various geoligical features in britain such as the north south divide....might be wrong on this bit However this process is still continuing and the earth continues to get warmer and the icecaps continue to melt....some low lyings areas such as Lincolnshire will be flooded by the sea....not all bad news then ! This warming process started many years ago ( even before the MK 1's ) Therefore when you hear all the news spouted around today about it being caused by jet airliners, huge power stations and V6 engines......it makes you think What a load of rubbish... The earth is getting warmer regardless of mans influence it is a natural phenomena and it will eventually stop and then get colder again......the icecaps will increase and cover most of western europe...as it has done many times before...diesels wont start even with their booster heaters ! Just thought I would let everyone know this and not worry about their fuel emmisions...unless of course they are black and oily Quote

Guest wolfie Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 funny thats what the dynamometer reads :o ahh but thats the HYPED figures quoted by the manufacturer! is that allowing for the acceptable % losses allowed or is that the we look good on paper figure  6. NET POWER MEASUREMENT TOLERANCES 6.1. The net power of the engine as determined by the technical service may differ by Quote
NikpV Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 who said the engine was in the car :o sshh - just keeping him ticking over  Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 (1) Global warming used to be attributed to the South American rain forests being chopped down, until it got convenient for politicians to blame it on vehicle emissions so they could use it as an excuse for more taxes;(2) A single volcanic explosion puts into the atmosphere more pollution than all the vehicles of the world do, in over a year. Volcanic explosions are therefore more responsible than cars for causing global warming Quote
big_kev Posted December 17, 2006 Author Report Posted December 17, 2006 funny thats what the dynamometer reads :o You have a dynamometer in your car ! ( I actually had to google this to find out what one was ). funny thats what the dynamometer reads  ahh but thats the HYPED figures quoted by the manufacturer! is that allowing for the acceptable % losses allowed or is that the we look good on paper figure :o 6. big_kev Posted December 18, 2006 Author Report Posted December 18, 2006 Geeze..people talk about me drifting off topic Started as a serious ( ish ) comment about the imminent global warming issue. Now progressed to the planned murder of MO4 by some knife weilding maniac ! Quote
mumof4 Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 Yes long queue im afraid  Global warming.........yes volcanoes throw a load of crud into the atmosphere...but man is accelerating the progress i believe in global warming..it is mans obsession to continually better themselves, to find new ways to do things that cost the least that is doing it...It would cost companies millions to change the way things are done... Quote
NikpV Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 what could be accelerating the process is the reduction of global dimming (reducing particle emissions - see London smogs last century) Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 the heating up and cooling down of the planet is a normal cycle - theres even theory's that the entire universe does it, and that the "BIG BANG" was simply the last time the universe cooled so much it all came back to its centre point, collided, reheated, then expands outwards again. there are a few theories to why the last ice age occur (my fav being a large volcanic eruption - there's strong evidence to support this idea). The planets cycle - can be effected by the orbit of the earth around the sun, the exact amount of tilt the planet has to the sun, and the change in light intensity of the sun over millions of years, all this contributes to the earths temperature - BEFORE you even get to the earths atmosphere - in my view - these factors ought to play an equal if not bigger role, than the atmosphere itself. what everyone is shouting about, is our influence on the planets cycle, because of our activities over the years, we are making the planet heat up faster than it normally would - according to the scientists - however, if we compare the planets cycle to years, sceptics also say, some "years" can be hotter than others, and were simply in a warmer cycle. my view is, for everything we do, theres some form of reaction to it, the phrase "you cannot destroy, or create energy, but simply change its form" (something like that, so dont quote me) goes well. so all the additional gasses were adding to the atmosphere, MUST have some affect, which scientists say, is a global warming of about 1.2-1.4 Quote
Bigjeeze Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 I think this has been said before but I'll say it again (because I'm annoying like that!) Global Warming is an issue it will cause problems - but only for Man - the planet will survive whatever we do to it - it all will all start over again - it's just that we won't be around to see it. By the way you tell all those people in Linconshire they're not coming round my house when the flood sets in- I've already invited someone so won't have the room! Quote
